A Must-Have for Amateurs!. I just purchased this product several days ago and I’m already in love with the improved image quality of my 50mm shots. Shifting from my newer Canon Rebel Xti with kit lens to this is like night and day. The bokeh in images comes out like I imagine when lining up the shot, and the fixed length makes me want to keep this lens in for all walk-around shots.
Taking others’ reviews into consideration before purchasing, the lens does feel rather delicate ( ~ 1/4 lb.); but please also remember, it’s also < $100. No other lens of this price range (new) falls into the same category. Bottom line, get this lens if you wish to change your beginner DSLR experience from that of the kit lens. For portraits and landscapes alike, you can't go wrong with the 50mm F/1.8!
I’m embarassed to admit I own this lens, but I like Canon EF 50mm f1.8 and use it often. It is cheap, “disposable”, sharp, fast, accurate, and light weight. I use it for low light conditions. I did some research before buying it and found most people gave it a buy rating. It is not built to last, so don’t drop it. But for the money, if you need a fast, cheap lens, this is a solution.
I’m a long time user of Nikon from the film days. I had 1 bad experience w/Nikon digital (a bios update ruined my camera due to bad Nikon software). I will eventually go back over the Nikon line when they get their electronics on par w/Canon. Therefore, I don’t want to spend a lot of money on Canon lenses but I do want some quality. These cheaper lenses are perfect for this waiting period.
Great lens for the price. I love it! I was using the kit lens for over a year until I got this lens and I wish I would have gotten it a lot sooner. It takes amazing pictures.
