I’ll start off by saying that I am not a US Kindle 2 owner – I am from the UK and primarily use the device in England. When I heard that Amazon’s bestselling e-reader was now available internationally, I just had to get one!
I read a lot of books and with travelling around a lot, carrying around a large hardback novel is not always ideal, especially when I’m away from home for numerous days at a time where I’d need to take maybe 2 or 3 books with me. This is where the Kindle is perfect for me. Another thing that sold this to me is the convenience of just wirelessly logging into the Kindle Store on the device (free of charge, which is a great bonus!), choose a new book, purchase it and have it ready to read within a minute – so never again will I be in the middle of nowhere with nothing to read as the nearest bookstore is miles away (which happens a lot!). The selection is vast as well, a majority of the titles I want are available and the price is generally lower than what they are in paper or hardback. Having pre-1923 books for free is also a great way of encouraging me to read some classics I normally wouldn’t have bought – I have already read a few of the H.G. Wells novels since buying this and loved them.
The device itself is very impressive – the “digital ink” screen is sometimes hard to believe it’s not paper I’m looking at (especially when looking at images) as it really doesn’t look like a screen at all. Being able to change the font size is great too, so it is easier on the eyes late at night. Its slim shape and light weight is perfect for carrying about and is very comfortable to hold when reading for a long period of time. The Text-To-Speech feature is excellent for journeys or when you want to give your eyes a rest for a while. The keypad is easy to use and makes searching for a book on the Kindle Store very simple. The long battery life is amazing – I charged this for 5 hours when I first got it 2 weeks ago, have read every day since for about 2-3 h
