Van puts out a twofer for his first DVD release. The 1974 set, though short, has some great vocal work (I like Twilight Zone especially). The 1980 set is awesome. As other reviewers have noted, Pee Wee and Mark Isham (the whole band really) do a wonderful job of backing up Van.
If you like the vibe from Common One (by far his most underappreciated album), you’ll especially love the 1980 set, since four of those tunes make it here in superlative fashion (Spirit, Satisfied, Summertime in England and Haunts of Ancient Peace).
But the tunes from his other albums also hold up nicely. This version of Listen to the Lion won’t make you forget the one on It’s Too Late To Stop Now, but it’s still a great read. Wavelength, Ballerina, Angeliou, and the reggae-feel And It Stoned Me are particular standouts for me. Others will appreciate the Moondance, Wild Night and a pretty inspired version of Tupelo Honey (never been one of my favorite Van tunes).
Now waiting for the Beacon Theatre show to be released on DVD–before I wear out my VHS copy.

I saw this video in my Japanese class and it was totally awesome how these talented musicians pour themselves into their work. It inspired me to do taiko drumming as a part of our japanese club. If they were this amazing on video I’m sure they are so much more so live.

With the purchase of my Canon T2i, I wanted a larger capacity flash memory card and decided to start with Transcend’s 16GB product. I have used it extensively in the first month I have owned the camera and am very impressed with the transfer speed and reliability. I have owned other flash memory cards made by Transcend in the past and have never had a problem. I will definitely buy more of their cards in the future!

I bought this concert DVD in the “Heat of the Moment” and it has quickly become one of my favorite concert DVD’s. In March 2007 “Asia” band members Geoff Downes, Steve Howe, Carl Palmer and John Wetton reunited for this memorable 25th anniversary concert in Tokyo Japan. Hailed as one of the first super groups of the 1980’s “Asia” definitely lived up to their billing as they ripped through 17 songs with great timing & precision. The bands’ playing was just as incredible in 2007 as it was when they formed in 1982.
For me this concert DVD was everything I had hoped for and so much more. I’ll admit that the guys are 25 years older and definitely showing their age but they haven’t lost anything when it comes to their musicianship on stage. Steve Howe seemed to really enjoy the whole reunion experience and his guitar playing was outstanding to say the least. Carl Palmer’s drumming in my opinion was truly awesome and he made it seem effortless as he went about his business as usual. Geoff Downes sounded much louder compared to the others, but he was still the showman on stage and his playing didn’t disappoint. What can you say about John Wetton, his voice has truly stood the test of time and it’s hard to believe 25 years has gone by. He was in fine form for this concert and he sounded as good as ever. He seemed to be in sync with the music and had no problem hitting all the notes.
“Asia” live in Tokyo Japan marks the 25th anniversary of the band and fans will not want to miss out on this memorable performance. Eagle Rock Entertainment has done an incredible job with this DVD release. The video image is absolutely spectacular. The picture is crisp and clear and the colors are vibrant and sharp. I can’t find any faults with the sound options; the 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS sound options are simply outstanding. The camera angles and editing are stellar and I wish every DVD concert was filmed like this one. In my opinion this is the best “Asia” concert DVD on the market and
Fantasia Live in Tokyo
The shelf live on most popular music is not very long. Who still listens to Linda Rondstadt? But some of the popular musicians cut through the clutter and re-define the genre in a new and lasting way. Buck Owens was one of them. A huge star in the early 1960s — did you know that the Beatles did a version of one of his songs on their album Help! — he has kind of faded from view of late. But Dwight Yoakum has been plugging his music, and he did this last live album.
This does not sound like the last live album of a an old man playing songs all written almost forty years ago– which is what it actually is. Instead, it sounds like a very lively fresh musician playing up to the minute music. The greats sounds do not die.
