Common Design Failure with Clutch. We purchased this bike for our 7-year old son for Christmas. After reading the reviews, we were nervous about purchasing Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike but we were not comfortable purchasing the more powerful MX650 and the MX350 was too small. In an effort to avoid disappointment on Christmas morning, we ordered it early (the box was badly worn upon arrival but all parts were there) and tested it several times before the big morning. Despite that, the bike STILL broke on Christmas morning after ONLY ten minutes of use. Our son did love it for the ten minutes that he was able to ride on it; however, the common design problem occurred. The clutch is mounted on the rear wheel and it is very poorly designed and appears to fail easily. In order to fix the problem, Razor has to send a new rear wheel and we have to cross our fingers that it actually works this time AND continues to work.

Despite being concerned about the MX650 being too much bike for a 7-year old, I wish that we had purchased that bike instead. It does not appear to have the same design flaw that the MX500 is plagued with and at least it would be working right now.

wow . me and my friends want this dirt rocket so bad that we had a garage sale but we could not have it at any of our yards so we had it at our school’s bus stop i hope you buy this dirt rocket it’s fun

My daughter loves this bike!. We bought this for our 7 y/o daughter for Christmas. She has not gotten off this thing since!

I was worried at first about the size and how heavy it is but she has not had any problems. She has laid it over on the grass before but was able to get it back up by herself. It does go pretty fast. No problems with the battery either. The length of the charge probably depends on the weight of the person riding it (she is on 50#) so she rides a long time before having to plug it in to recharge (which is also simple and she keeps up with this herself).

Excellent Ride. My 10 year old nephew (a big kid) got this for his Birthday/Christmas present. The bike arrived quickly and with no damage. Assembly was simple with the enclosed tools. Quite a value for the money spent! New owners should be aware that the instructions state: “Do not store in freezing or below freezing temperatures! Freezing temperatures will permanently damage the battery.” This is not mentioned on the web or in advertising and I assume it applies to any Razor product with sealed lead acid batteries! This can change your parking/charging plans! Caution should be used in washing–the motor has open cooling ports. The bike is fast enough for a kid to get hurt, so owners should invest in a quality helmet and insist on its use. Hitting a fixed object (tree/sign/someone/ whatever)at 25 ft/sec could really hurt. The brakes should be checked regularly as the pads wear and lose stopping power. (Extra pads can be ordered but instructions in their installation are lacking). Young riders should be instructed in motorcycle riding technique (use “balanced” braking or slightly more back than front brake, slow down in loose gravel/sand/wet leaves–this would be a welcome addition to the Razor instructions). All in all, a great product.

WOW. This was a great buy for my 10 yr old son.I was sceptical about its preformance but was gladly amazed by the amout of the speed and power. The run time far exedes 45 minutes. My son loves to ride tis product so much he rides once a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
