Newly discovered Brad Renfro gives a stunningly believable performance that matches those of Sarandon and Jones…everyone comes to the plate with just the right amount of professionalism and the film goes ‘over the top’ in all catagories. I find Brad Renfro’s first six films where he carries more of a lead role as a ‘coming-of-age’ preteen/teen to be some of his best work – how sad that his untimely death prevents us from witnessing his certain transformation into an older, seasoned actor.

I always enjoy a new take on fairies, and these technology savvy fey are no exception. Instead of magical creatures that have no need of technology, these fairies have super-advanced technology combined with magic. But anyway, that’s just the fairies. The main character of the novel, Artemis Fowl, is a boy genius who is also a criminal. He is simply following in the footsteps of Fowls who came before him, and even has his own personal bodyguard who has been assigned to him since birth. Although Artemis is a criminal genius, he has problems at school, his mother suffers from some sort of mental disorder, and his father is missing in action–it’s interesting to see how Artemis tries to work out his problems, and how the story plays out in the end.

I recommend this book, especially for tweens and younger teens, but I enjoyed the story as an adult, too.

This scale is great. I had another ‘Thinner’ brand scale which I liked, but the inability to change the battery caused me to have to throw out the entire thing, which is ludicrous! This scale looks just as good, but a very important feature is that I can change the batteries. It gives a consistent digital readout with a lighted screen. I can step on it several times in a row and the reading is always the same. If it changes, I know it’s because of ME and not because of the scale. I highly recommend this product.
